BLUE CRYSTAL FINISH
THE ETCH RESISTANT MARCITE ALTERNATIVE
Blue Crystal Finish is a factory blended marcite alternative of highest quality that utilizes 3M colorquartz aggregate, white portland cement and proprietary additives to enhance strength, density, bonding and curing. Blue Crystal Finish will yield a durable surface that is highly resistant to stains and spot etching which commonly plague traditional pool plasters.
SURFACE PREPARATION:
Suitable for application over gunite or shotcrete substrates which are free of foreign matter, e.g., dirt, grease, oil, dust, etc. If an acid wash is used to rid the substrate of foreign matter, neutralize with a solution of soda ash and water.
If the project is a renovation, Florida Stucco's POOL PREP is an excellent preparation material to be used in conjunction with Blue Crystal Finish. Consult our specifications regarding POOL PREP for additional details.
MIXING PROCEDURE:
Best results are obtained when standard power mixes are utilized. Use only clean, potable water. WATER MUST BE CAREFULLY MEASURED FOR EACH BATCH - UTILIZATION OF A MEASURING PAIL IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. DO NOT ADD WATER DIRECTLY TO THE MIXER FROM A HOSE. Add Blue Crystal Finish to water. Approximately 1.75 to 2.25 gallons of clean, potable water can be used to bring the mix to a lump-free consistency. Allow the material and water to mix for 10-20 minutes to provide best workability. Addition of other materials is not necessary; Blue Crystal Finish is a complete product.
APPLICATION:
Apply Blue Crystal Finish over a cement base that has been dried for a minimum of 24 hours. The pool's walls and floors must be evenly sprayed with water before application to reduce suction. This allows adequate absorption to occur to enable Blue Crystal to dry in a natural manner.
SCRATCH COAT:
(1) Apply a thin coat of Blue Crystal Finish - double back with another coat building to a thickness of ¼".
(2) Allow Blue Crystal Finish to take-up adequately - then build up thickness on the walls to 3/8" and on the floors to ½". Follow with smooth trowelling. Plastic trowels can be used for the final trowelling process.
(3) If application must be stopped or delayed, finish to a natural break to eliminate joining marks.
(4) Application is best accomplished by mechanics who adhere to the professional plastering standards of the industry.
EXPOSING BLUE CRYSTAL FINISH:
Depending on prevailing weather conditions exposing the Blue Crystal Finish can begin within 2 hours after finish trowelling or up to 12 hours later. Factory trained personnel are supplied when requested with initial use of Blue Crystal Finish. These personnel can supply instruction in the exposing phase of the Blue Crystal Finish Installation.
CURING:
Filling the pool with water with Blue Crystal Finish is accomplished in the same manner as with traditional marcite.
SPECIFICATION:
All materials used in the manufacture of Blue Crystal Finish comply with ASTM C926-86 and ANSI.2-1971.
